England kept their cool to narrowly defeat India by four runs, securing a spot in the semifinals of the Women’s World Cup 2025 in Indore on Sunday(October 19,2025).

Choosing to bat first, England relied on their captain Heather Knight, who scored a stylish 109 off 91 balls (15 fours, 1 six) in her 300th international match, leading them to a total of 288 for 8.

Amy Jones also played well, adding a solid 56 runs from 68 balls with 8 fours.

England looked set at 249 for 3 in the 45th over.

India’s bowlers, particularly off-spinner Deepti Sharma (4 wickets for 51 runs) and debutant Shree Charani (2 wickets for 68 runs), caused a dramatic collapse, resulting in five wickets lost in the last five overs.

In response, India put up a strong fight with captain Smriti Mandhana scoring 88, Harmanpreet Kaur 70, and Deepti Sharma 50, but ultimately fell just short at 284 for 6 in their 50 overs.

This outcome secured England’s place in the semifinals alongside Australia and South Africa.

India, having suffered their third consecutive defeat following losses to South Africa and Australia, now finds themselves in a must-win situation.
