The AI mode feature in Google Search, which runs on a custom version of Gemini, is now accessible in India in English.

Google’s AI Mode feature in Search is now being launched in India, allowing users to conduct more in-depth and intricate search queries. This feature was first tested in the United States earlier this year, and according to the tech giant, users have been enjoying the new feature’s “quick, quality, and new responses”.

After getting some great feedback, AI Mode is now part of Google Labs and available in English. According to a blog post from the company, this new feature runs on a tailored version of Gemini 2.5, allowing users to pose “lengthier, more complex, and detailed questions” that would have needed several searches before.

Users might ask things like, “My kids are 5 and 8 and full of energy. Can you suggest some fun ways to keep them active indoors, especially on hot days, without needing much space or pricey toys?” Google mentions that users can also follow up with questions like, “Can you recommend some activities they can do on their own?”.

The latest Google Search AI Mode feature employs a method known as the “query fan out method”. This approach essentially divides your question into smaller subtopics and conducts several searches for you. Interestingly, this new AI Mode can also access real-time resources such as the Knowledge Graph, providing insights about the real world and allowing you to shop for millions of products.

With AI mode’s multimodal features, Google mentions that users can pose questions through voice, text, or by uploading an image. To activate voice mode, just hit the microphone and ask your question in AI mode. This is super convenient for getting answers to lengthy, detailed inquiries while you’re on the move.

The tech giant mentioned that it’s adding Lens features to AI Mode, which lets you ask questions about what you’re viewing. For example, if you receive a new plant as a present and want to learn more about it, just open the Google app on your Android or iOS device, snap a photo, and ask, “What’s this plant and how should I take care of it?”.

If you’re interested in giving the new AI Mode a shot in Google Search, just go to “labs.google.com”. Once you’re on that page, look for the experiment called “AI Mode” and switch it on.

When you’re finished, you can try the new feature by selecting the “Try AI Mode” button located on the page.

You can also get to AI Mode by searching for something on Google and clicking the “AI Mode” tab at the top of the search results.
