On Wednesday (July 3, 2025), Carlos Alcaraz put an end to Oliver Tarvet’s Wimbledon journey, defeating the British amateur in straight sets to advance to the third round, while last year’s runner-up, Jasmine Paolini, also faced an early exit alongside other stars.

A stunning number of top seeds were eliminated in the first round at the All England Club, but Alcaraz and the women’s world number one, Aryna Sabalenka, managed to dodge any second-round surprises on Centre Court.

Defending champ Alcaraz took two hours and 17 minutes to overcome world number 733 Tarvet, who showed glimpses of his rising talent that thrilled the enthusiastic crowd.

First off, I really want to give a shoutout to Oliver. Honestly, I loved his game in his second match on the tour”, said the Spaniard after his 6-1, 6-4, 6-4 victory.

“I knew I had to bring my A-game. I was super pleased with how I played, but I also have to give him a lot of credit”.

Alcaraz has been on fire, winning his last 20 matches! This incredible run has earned him titles at the Rome Masters, the French Open, and Queen’s Club.

The 22 year old who defeated Jannik Sinner in last month’s Roland Garros final has triumphed in 31 out of 34 Tour level matches on grass. His most recent loss at Wimbledon was to Sinner in the fourth round back in 2022.

As the second seed, he aims to join the ranks of Bjorn Borg, Pete Sampras, Roger Federer, and seven time champion Novak Djokovic as the fifth man in the Open era to secure at least three consecutive Wimbledon titles.
