Friendship day is all about celebrating the strong connections we have with our friends. It’s a fun event that people all over the world enjoy.

On this day, friends swap gifts, organize fun activities, and sometimes hit the town for a party. A popular and traditional way to celebrate is by tying a friendship band around your buddy’s wrist as a symbol of your friendship and affection.

The Reason

Joyce Hall, the founder of Hallmark Cards, came up with the concept back in 1930. She aimed to celebrate this day on August 2 by exchanging gifts and greeting cards with her friends.

Additionally, the concept of a ‘Global Friendship Day’ was born on July 20, 1958, when Dr. Ramon Artemio Bracho was having dinner with friends in Puerto Pinasco, Paraguay.

This was the start of the ‘World Friendship Crusade’, a foundation aimed at promoting camaraderie among everyone, no matter their race, color, or religion.

Consequently, July 30 turned into a widely celebrated day known as Friendship Day in Paraguay, and it has been embraced by numerous other nations around the globe.

The concept of a worldwide Friendship Day gained traction, and in 2011, the United Nations officially recognized July 30 as International Friendship Day.

Interestingly, the United Nations General Assembly has officially recognized July 30 as International Friendship Day. However, in some countries like India, it’s celebrated on the first Sunday of August. While the date may change, the day of the week remains the same, and this year, it will be observed on August 3, 2025.

No matter when it’s celebrated, the goal of Friendship Day remains unchanged to honor and appreciate the amazing friendships that enhance our lives
