ICICI Bank

ICICI Bank changed its policy on August 13, following public criticism, for accounts that were opened after August 1. They reduced the minimum balance requirement for metro and urban areas from Rs 50,000 to Rs 15,000, according to their website.

Kotak Bank

Kotak Bank asks its customers to keep at least Rs 10,000 in their savings account.

IDFC Bank

IDFC Bank asks urban savings account holders to keep a minimum balance of RS 10,000.

SBI Bank

SBI savings accounts and Savings Plus accounts don’t require a minimum balance, whether monthly or quarterly. As stated on the bank’s website, these zero-balance accounts won’t incur any penalties.

Axis Bank

You need to keep at least Rs 12,000 in your savings account at Axis Bank.

HDFC Bank

HDFC Bank asks urban savings account holders to keep a balance of Rs 10,000 or have a fixed deposit of Rs 1 lakh for more than a year, as stated on its website.

Bandhan Bank

Bandhan Bank asks customers to keep a minimum balance of Rs 12,000 in their savings account.

Bank Of Baroda

Customers need to keep Rs 12,000 in their Bank of Baroda savings accounts.

Canada Bank

Canara Bank requires its savings account holders to maintain a minimum balance of ₹2,000.

Union Bank

Union Bank of India, being one of the big public sector banks in India, requires its customers to maintain a minimum balance of Rs 1000.

Bank Of India

The Bank of India provides savings accounts with no minimum balance requirement for its customers.

Indian Bank

On July 7, 2025, Indian Bank shared a post on social media saying they’ve eliminated the minimum balance requirement for their savings accounts.

Punjab National Bank

Punjab National Bank asks its account holders to keep a minimum balance of Rs 2000 in their savings accounts.
