Luis Diaz netted a goal and clinched a title in his first match for Bayern Munich, leading to a 2-1 victory against Stuttgart in the German Supercup.

Harry Kane netted a goal for the Bundesliga champions, securing the least significant trophy of the season. He opened the scoring in the 18th minute when the ball fell perfectly for him to fire it into the left post.

“Kane mentioned that starting off with a trophy is crucial”, after he secured his second team title. His first was the Bundesliga in May.

Bayern was in control at the start, but Stuttgart made a comeback with Nick Woltemade forcing a solid save from Manuel Neuer.

Woltemade was, and might still be, on Bayern’s radar for a summer transfer.

However, the two clubs haven’t managed to settle on a price yet, even though the player is keen on the transfer.

Diaz made the switch to Bayern from Liverpool last month, marking the club’s most significant transfer of the offseason.

Neuer pulled off an incredible reflex save to stop Jamie Leweling just two minutes before Diaz found the net in the 77th minute, while Leweling was getting treatment off the field after a knee clash with Bayern’s Sacha Boey.

“It’s definitely painful, but still, and maybe not a popular opinion, he should experience the pain on the pitch and not two meters away from it”, said Stuttgart coach Sebastian Hoeneb.

Leweling bounced back and directed Stuttgart’s response during stoppage time.

This marks the fourth consecutive year that German soccer officials have organized what used to be the traditional season opener on the same weekend as the first round of the German Cup, which has led to participants having to delay their cup matches.

Stuttgart kicks off its title defense against Eintracht Braunschweig on August 26, while Bayern faces off against third division team Wehen Wiesbaden the next day.

Wolfsburg crushed fifth tier SV Hemelingen 9-0 in the opening round of the German Cup, and other Bundesliga teams also had significant victories against lower league teams.

Two time champions Leipzig came back from behind twice to defeat fourth tier SV Sandhausen 4-2, with new players Ezechiel Banzuzi and Yan Diomande getting on the scoresheet.

Heidenheim triumphed over 10-man fourth tier Bahlinger SC with a score of 5-0, Hoffenheim secured a 4-0 win against third division Hansa Rostock, and Freiburg beat fourth tier Sportfreunde Lotte 2-0.

Hamburger SV, which made its comeback to the Bundesliga last season, faced a bit of a scare against fifth-tier Pirmasens.

They managed to equalize late in the game, pushing it to extra time, where Ransford-Yeboah Konigsdorffer scored the winning header for a final score of 2-1.

Bochum also had to score a late goal to equalize before they triumphed over nine-man Dynamo Berlin with a score of 3-1.

St. Pauli had to rely on penalties to get past their fourth tier Hamburg rival, Eintracht Norderstedt, while the fourth tier Bavarian team FV Illertissen pulled off an upset against Miroslav Klose’s Nuremberg, winning 6-5 on penalties after the match ended 3-3 in extra time.
