Jannik Sinner continued his defense of the U.S. Open title on Saturday (August 30, 2025).

Sinner came back after losing the first set to defeat Denis Shapovalov with scores of 5-7, 6-4, 6-3, 6-3.

He’s aiming to be the first man to defend the title in New York since Roger Federer did it in 2008.

“Today was really tough for me. The score wasn’t in my favor, but I focused on keeping my head in the game”, Sinner shared.

The top ranked player, Sinner is waiting for the winner of tonight’s match between U.S. 14th seed Tommy Paul and Kazakhstan’s 23rd seed Alexander Bublik.

“The second week is a whole new ball game. It’s becoming more challenging, both physically and mentally”, Sinner remarked.

Eighth seed De Minaur was ahead of Daniel Altmaier with a score of 6-7 (7/9), 6-3, 6-4, 2-0 when the German player retired.

Meanwhile, 10th seed Musetti was leading Flavio Cobolli by two sets when Cobolli had to stop playing due to an arm injury.

“I didn’t want to end it this way, especially against Flavio. He’s probably one of my closest friends on the tour”, Musetti shared.

Riedi made history by becoming the lowest ranked player to reach the fourth round of a major since 2002, as his Polish opponent Kamil Majchrzak had to retire after just eight games due to an injury.

Unseeded Jaume Munar, 28, also moved forward in what marks his best performance at a Grand Slam, while Hong Kong’s Coleman Wong saw his impressive journey come to an end with a five-set defeat against 15th seed Andrey Rublev.

The 21-year-old Wong made history as the first player from Hong Kong to win a Grand Slam singles match in the Open era.

Zverev eliminated in the third round of the U.S. Open.

Alexander Zverev was knocked out in the third round of the U.S. Open after being defeated by Canadian 25th seed Felix Auger-Aliassime in four sets.

Zverev, who was the runner-up in the 2020 U.S. Open, took the first set and even had a set point in the second, but ultimately faltered as Auger-Aliassime triumphed 4-6, 7-6 (9/7), 6-4, 6-4 after 3 hours and 48 minutes.

This is the first time Zverev hasn’t made it to the second week in New York since 2018.

He faced his earliest Grand Slam exit in six years at Wimbledon last month after getting knocked out in the first round.

Auger-Aliassime moves on to a fourth round clash with Russian 15th seed Andrey Rublev on Monday.

Swiatek, who won the US Open in 2022 and has six major titles under her belt, wasn’t at her best but managed to push through to a last-16 clash with Ekaterina Alexandrova.

Swiatek displayed impressive determination to pull herself out of a tough spot against Russian 29th seed Anna Kalinskaya under the lights of Arthur Ashe Stadium.

“I felt like I had nothing to lose since I was losing pretty badly. So in the end, I just went for it because what else could I do?”, Swiatek shared about her comeback.

Russian 13th seed Alexandrova has never advanced beyond the fourth round in a Grand Slam but crushed Laura Siegemund 6-0, 6-1 and has only given up 10 games on her way to the second week in New York.

After a tearful win in the previous round, a much more composed Gauff took care of Frech with relative ease to kick off Saturday’s matches.

“This week has been quite the emotional rollercoaster, but I think those challenging moments were necessary for me to progress. I was really hard on myself”, Gauff shared.

She advances to the last 16 at Flushing Meadows for the fourth consecutive year.

“I think today proved that I was genuinely enjoying myself out there”.

Gauff is gearing up for a match on Monday (September 1, 2025) against former world number one Osaka, who recently defeated Australian 15th seed Daria Kasatkina with a score of 6-0, 4-6, 6-3.

The four-time Grand Slam champion Osaka is experiencing her best U.S. Open run since she clinched the title for the second time in 2020.

The last-16 clash will be a rematch of their first encounter at the US Open in 2019, where Osaka dominated the then 15 year old Gauff in straight sets.

Wimbledon runner up and eighth seed Amanda Anisimova triumphed over Romania’s Jaqueline Cristian with a score of 6-4, 4-6, 6-2.

In an all-Czech match, Karolina Muchova defeated Linda Noskova with a score of 6-7 (5/7), 6-4, 6-2.

Ukrainian 27th seed Marta Kostyuk managed to beat France’s Diane Parry in a three set battle.
