India’s HS Prannoy and Lakshya Sen secured tough victories to move forward in the Hong Kong Open Super 500 tournament here on Wednesday.

Prannoy, who is ranked 34th globally, took down 14th ranked Lu Guang Zu from China with a score of 21-17, 21-14 in just 44 minutes.

Sen kicked off his campaign with a tough win of 22-20, 16-21, 21-15, earning a spot in the men’s singles pre-quarterfinals.

Sindhu, who made it to the BWF World Championships quarterfinals last month, was defeated in the women’s singles round of 32 match with scores of 21-15, 16-21, 19-21 by unseeded Danish player Line Christophersen.

Sindhu started strong, taking a 3-1 lead in the first game, but her opponent managed to equalize at 5-all.

With a 14-13 lead, Sindhu stepped up her performance, allowing Christophersen to score just one more point before clinching the first game.

In the second game, the Indian player was ahead at 13-12, but then mistakes started to creep in, and she ended up giving away five points in a row.

The final game turned into a tense showdown, with both players tied at 19-all. However, Christophersen managed to secure two crucial points, ultimately ending Sindhu’s run in the tournament.

World No. 31 Ayush Shetty faced a tough match against  Chinese-Taipei player Su Li Yang, winning 15-21, 21-19, 21-13 in a little over an hour to reach the last-16 in men’s singles.

The women’s doubles team of Rutaparna Panda and Swetaparna Panda triumphed in their round of 32 match against Hong Kong’s Oi Ki Vanessa Pang and Sum Yau Wong, finishing with scores of 17-21, 9-21 in just 28 minutes.

On Tuesday, India’s leading men’s doubles team of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty successfully overcame Taiwan’s Chiu Hsiang Chieh and Wang Chi-Lin in their opening round.

Additionally, the mixed doubles team of Rohan Kapoor and Ruthvika Gadde will face off against the second-seeded Chinese duo of Feng Yan Zhe and Huang Dong Ping.
