The Indian women’s hockey team made it to the Asia Cup final even after ending in a 1-1 draw with Japan.
In the match against Japan, India started strong with Beauty Dung Dung scoring a field goal in the seventh minute.
However, Japan responded late in the game, with Kobayakawa Shiho equalizing in the 58th minute, just two minutes before the end.
This was the second time the two teams drew in this tournament, following their pool stage match that also finished 2-2.
If India had won against Japan, they would have immediately secured a spot in the final against the host team, China.
India kept an eye on the Super 4s match between China and Korea.
India got off to a strong start in the early moments of the game and posed a threat right from the first few minutes, with Ishika Chaudhary hitting the goal post.
Following that, Japan started to create some offensive plays, but they were soon pushed back when India scored through Dung Dung.
In the second quarter, Japan aimed for the equalizer and took the initiative in the opening minutes.
They even earned a penalty corner, but India defended it easily.
As the match went on, the Indian team began to take back control of the ball and started forming their own attacks.
Japan’s defense held strong and then ramped up the pressure on India towards the end of the first half.
India’s defense managed to keep them at bay, heading into the break with a score of 1-0.
In the final quarter, Japan intensified their attack in search of an equalizer.
Halfway through the quarter, India began advancing up the field and earned several penalty corners, shifting the pressure back onto their rivals.
But Japan finally found the net in the 58th minute. Captain Amiru Shimada charged down the left side and sent the ball into the circle.
In the midst of a scramble, Shiho Kobayakawa was the quickest to react and knocked the ball into the net past Bichu Devi, equalizing the score.
India pushed hard in the final moments, even getting a penalty corner.
Japan stood strong as both teams ended up sharing the points when the final whistle blew.

China led the Super 4s table with nine points from three wins, while India came in second with four points from one win, one draw, and one loss.
Korea only managed to get one point – one draw and two losses, finishing at the bottom. Japan ended up third with two points.
