The Manchester City forward made history by being the quickest player to net 50 goals in the Champions League during a 2-0 victory against Napoli on Thursday (September 18, 2025).

He hitting this milestone in just his 49th match in the premier European club tournament.

Haaland broke the old record set by Ruud van Nistelrooy, the former forward for Manchester United and Real Madrid, who needed 62 games to hit that mark.

At just 25, Haaland appears to be on track to catch Cristiano Ronaldo’s all time Champions League record of 141 goals.

Haaland already broke Van Nistelrooy’s Champions League record for being the fastest player to hit 30 goals, back in 2023.

That same year, he also became the quickest player to net 50 in the Premier League.

Since joining City from Borussia Dortmund in 2022, he has netted 130 goals in 151 matches.

“We are so lucky and fortunate to have him”, Guardiola remarked, noting that Haaland’s achievements place him alongside legends like Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, and Robert Lewandowski.

The latest goal from the Norway international was a looping header scored early in the second half at the Etihad Stadium.

This season, he has scored 12 goals in just seven appearances for both club and country – which includes five goals in Norway’s impressive 11-1 victory over Moldova last week.

He also scored twice in City’s 3-0 win against United on Sunday (September 14, 2025).

Haaland has now outdone some of the legends in European soccer on the all time scorers list for the Champions League and European Cup.

He has moved past Madrid legend Alfredo di Stefano and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

He is currently tied with Filippo Inzaghi and just one goal behind Thierry Henry, who sits at 11th on UEFA’s list.

Messi remains the youngest player to hit 50 goals – achieving that milestone at just 24 years and 284 days old.

Ronaldo tops the scoring chart, Messi is in second place with 129 goals, and Lewandowski is third with 105.

Kylian Mbappe got to 50 goals in 79 matches, and the Madrid forward is now at 57 in the competition.

Haaland’s next goal is to catch Messi’s record of 60 Champions League goals in 80 games.

Messi also has the record for the fewest games (90) to reach 70 goals.

Lewandowski’s tally of 80 Champions League goals in 100 games is another impressive record.
