Suryavanshi, with 70 runs off 68 balls, set the stage for India’s innings after his opening partner Mhatre was dismissed for a duck on just his second ball.
The young batting star teamed up with Vihaan Malhotra, who scored 70 off 74 balls, to put together a crucial 117-run partnership for the second wicket, helping India regain their footing.
Suryavanshi’s wicket came at a bad time, halting India’s momentum.
Wicketkeeper Abhigyan Kundu contributed significantly with 71 runs off 64 balls, forming important partnerships with the lower order.
Middle order batsman Jayden Draper scored a solid 102 off 72 balls for Australia, but they could only reach 249 all out in 47.2 overs while chasing a hefty target of 301 set by India.
Australia started their chase well, reaching 63 for 1 in 18.5 overs. But then, off spinner Kanishk Chouhan took out Steve Hogan, which sparked a mini-collapse.
The home team lost two more wickets at the same score of 63, with Alex Turner and Yash Deshmukh both falling, leaving them at 63 for four.
Things got worse as they slipped to 109 for six, putting them in a tough spot.
Draper and Aryan Sharma, who scored 38, managed to put together a 112-run partnership for the seventh wicket, keeping Australia in the game.
Mhatre came back to take both Draper and Aryan’s wickets in quick succession, dashing Australia’s hopes.
The win gave India a solid 2-0 advantage in the three match series.
