AI production company Particle6 claims that multiple talent agents are interested in signing its AI-generated “actor” Tilly Norwood.

Referring to AI avatars as actors is a subtle form of deception – a linguistic trick meant to make what is really a theft seem like innovation.

These digital entities aren’t products of imagination or creativity.

They’re constructed from the labor of real performers whose expressions, voices, and gestures have been harvested to bring machines to life – without any payment.

It’s not really artistry. It’s more like appropriation, a calculated twist on creative credit that turns exploitation into evolution.

In this process, it swaps the genuine human touch of storytelling for a programmable illusion of presence.

Tilly Norwood isn’t some kind of ‘art’ as her creators claim, but just a digital puppet.

Norwood, she’s just one of many AI personas that the studio is working on. But Hollywood isn’t exactly rolling out the red carpet for her.

Norwood’s debut has sparked significant backlash from various people in the film industry.

The labor union Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) stated that creativity should always be centered around humans. The union stands against replacing human performers with synthetic ones.

Who Is Tilly Norwood

Tilly Norwood isn’t a real actor. She’s a character created by a computer program that learned from the work of many professional performers without their consent or any payment.

She lacks real life experiences, emotions, and based on what we’ve observed, audiences don’t seem to care for computer generated content that lacks a human touch.

AI studio behind Norwood is making a big effort to make her seem normal, as shown by the Instagram account set up for the AI avatar.

Sharing typical influencer style photos, the bio on the profile states: “Actress (aspiring), London (mostly in cafes…)”.

AI in film isn’t a new concept. It’s been used in various sci-fi and animated movies where computer generated graphics are essential.

However, with avatars that can be trained or directed based on prompts, the worries extend far beyond their immediate effects on the creative industry.

A-list celebrities probably won’t be affected by the emergence of these AI avatars, the real risk of job loss lies with those who have less influence – like background actors, voice artists, lighting technicians, and composers, among others.

AI – The Appearance Of Certainty

Every piece of AI is shaped by humans who make decisions through the lines of code they write.

By portraying AI as some grand entity, capable of being either a benevolent giant or a world destroyer, AI creators are pushing the conversation into the realm of the ridiculous, as a strategy to normalize the integration of AI into our daily lives.

AI are trying to embed their tools into our lives. It’s all about making AI feel normal around us. We must resist this temptation.
