Govardhan Puja is an important Hindu festival, also referred to as Annakut.

It takes place on the fourth day of Diwali celebrations, which is the first lunar day of the month of Kartik in the Hindu calendar.

This year, it will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 22, 2025.

The best time for the morning puja is between 06:11 and 08:31, and for the evening puja, it’s from 15:30 to 17:50.

Why It’s Celebrated

Govardhan is a special day dedicated entirely to Lord Krishna, holding great religious and spiritual importance.

On this blessed day of Govardhan, people show their devotion and purity in worshiping Lord Krishna. According to the Hindu scripture “Bhagavat Purana”, the residents of Gokul used to honor Lord Indra, the rain god.

But one day, Lord Krishna told them to stop worshiping Indra and instead to perform puja for the Govardhan hill, which provided them with resources.

The villagers then began offering Annakoot to express their gratitude to Mount Govardhan, which made Lord Indra very angry, leading to heavy rain.

To shield the villagers from Indra’s fury, Lord Krishna lifted the entire Govardhan mountain with just his little finger.

After witnessing Krishna’s divine powers, Indra calmed down.
