iPhone users might soon enjoy a broader array of satellite-powered features, as Apple is said to be working on enhancing its connectivity tools beyond just emergency calls and texting services.

The upcoming iPhone features are expected to utilize satellite connectivity, enabling users to access Apple Maps without needing an internet connection, send photos through messaging, and more.

Although these features are still in the works, they are expected to be free for users, though there may be additional charges from telecom carriers for more advanced support.

Internally, the company has discussed the possibility of launching its own satellite connectivity service.

However, there are concerns that this would position Apple as a carrier. Still, there’s a chance that Apple could collaborate with a satellite communications giant like SpaceX to provide users with a paid option for enhanced connectivity.

The existing satellite-based features on iOS operate on a network owned by Globalstar.

Reportedly, the iPhone manufacturer has helped finance and upgrade Globalstar’s infrastructure to support the features that are currently in development.

Apple is really putting effort into satellite-powered features, which is a big deal because it could make iPhones way more useful.

Users would be able to do certain things even when they’re out of reach of regular cell networks.

List of new features that are expected to come to iPhones:

1)Apple Maps via satellite

2Photos in Messages via satellite

3)Satellite over 5G

4)Satellite API framework for third-party apps.

There will also be natural usage that allows satellite connectivity from indoors, so you won’t have to point your device at the sky.
