The Lionel Messi – India Tour began somewhat chaotically but concluded spectacularly as loyal supporters flocked to witness a player whose abilities on the field frequently seem superhuman.

Goat Delhi Tour

The thousands of fans filling the stands at Kotla, along with a handful of Indian celebrities and dignitaries present, reveled in the excitement of hosting one of the globe’s most famous and marketable athletes at such a lavish event.

They were likely mesmerized by his extraordinary talent, his down-to-earth nature, and the significant influence he has had on the sport he has passionately played for the past twenty years.

Messi briefly spoke in Spanish, a language not widely understood in the city, saying,“I want to thank everyone for the love and affection. During these days in India – it was a truly beautiful
experience for us.We carry all this love with us.We will definitely return – hopefully one day to play a match or on another occasion, but we will definitely return to visit India – Thank you very much”.

Gracias Delhi! Hasta pronto(Thank you Delhi! See you soon)

When he arrived, Messi took a lap around the field with a smile, watching the celebrity match come to a close, while the spectators, many clad in the iconic blue and white Argentine jersey with No. 10, chanted his name non-stop.

He then stood there, waving and smiling at the fans, something he attempted to do in Kolkata as well, but was unable to due to being surrounded by too many people, including politicians and their aides, at the Salt Lake Stadium on Saturday (December 13, 2025).

He was spotted kicking the ball at the stands with his Inter Miami teammates, Luis Suarez and Rodrigo De Paul, while checking out the venue that had about 25,000 attendees.

Messi also congratulated the Minerva Academy football team.

The script was tailored specifically for Messi, and true to his style, he nailed the role perfectly.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, ICC Chairman Jay Shah, DDCA President Rohan Jaitley, and former Indian football team captain Bhaichung Bhutia had the honor of being with Messi towards the end of the 30-minute event.

Earlier that day, Messi arrived for the final leg of his G.O.A.T India Tour after his flight from Mumbai faced significant delays due to bad weather.

Messi, who was in Mumbai for the second day of his three-day whirlwind trip to India, was supposed to land in the national capital around 10:45 a.m., but his charter flight was delayed because of foggy conditions.

He finally touched down at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport around 2:30 p.m. and immediately headed to the Leela Palace Hotel for a Meet and Greet session with a select group of people.
