Parneet Kaur fell short of winning a compound women’s individual medal, while the Indian recurve women’s team continued their quest for a bronze at the World Archery Championships in Gwangju, Korea, on Tuesday (September 9, 2025).

Despite achieving remarkable victories against Great Britain’s World No. 2 Ella Gibson with a score of 148-146.

World No. 3 V. Jyothi Surekha with a score of 149-147 in the pre-quarterfinals and quarterfinals respectively.

Parneet was defeated 144-145 by Colombian Alejandro Usquiano in the bronze medal match.

On a rainy day, Parneet, who won a silver medal at the World University Games, let go of a three point lead and ended up losing 142-143 to the less recognized Sofia Paiz from El Salvador in the semifinals.

The Indian scored two 9s and an 8, while Sofia hit two 9s and a 10 in the final round.

The Indian women’s recurve team, which includes Deepika Kumari, Ankita Bhakat, and Gatha Khadake, made it to the semifinals but lost 2-6 to Japan.

Now, India is set to face the top ranked Korea in the bronze medal match.

Men: Neeraj Chauhan (36th, 670), B. Dhiraj (39th, 669), Rahul (62nd, 657).

Women: Deepika Kumari (sixth, 677), Gatha Khadake (14th, 666), Ankita Bhakat (30th, 656).

For the men, India (Neeraj, Dhiraj, Rahul) faced Denmark and lost 4-5 after a shoot off (26-28) in the 1st round.

For the women, India (Deepika, Gatha, Ankita) received a bye in the 1st round, then beat Slovenia 5-1 in the 2nd round, followed by a win against Turkey 6-2 in the 3rd round, but ultimately lost to Japan 2-6 in the semifinal.

In the mixed category, India (Deepika, Neeraj) also got a bye in the 1st round, but lost to Japan 4-5 in a shoot off (18-19) during the 2nd round.

Compound:

Individual:

For the women – Prithika Pradeep lost to Hazal Burun (Tur) with a score of 143-146 in the pre-quarterfinals.

V. Jyothi Surekha tied with Nurisa Ashrifah (Ina) at 148-148 but won in the shoot off (10*-10, shot closer to the center) in the pre-quarterfinal.
