Google has announced that when users are creating research reports, their Gemini Deep Research tool can now access data from Gmail, Google Drive, and Google Chat.

Previously, the AI chat bot could only search the web, PDF files, and images uploaded by the user.

The chat bot formulates a multi-step research plan, searches the internet, produces the report, modifies it according to user feedback, and can either export it to Google Docs or convert it into a podcast.

Users can choose the ‘Deep Research’ option from Gemini’s Tools menu, locate the new ‘Sources’ option in the dropdown, and see ‘Search’ which will now include Gmail, Drive, and Chat in the menu.

Google has announced that this feature is already live on the desktop version and will soon be available on the Gemini app.

“Now you can kick off a market analysis for a new product by having Deep Research examine your team’s initial brainstorming documents, relevant email threads, and project plans. Alternatively, you can create a competitor report about a rival product that combines public web data with your strategies, comparison spreadsheets, and team discussions”, a blog post from Google stated.
