Instagram is trying out a picture-in-picture feature that allows certain viewers to watch small versions of Reels while they multitask in other apps.

Competing video platforms TikTok and YouTube both offer picture-in-picture modes.

Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram, mentioned earlier this year that Meta is considering this feature as well.

The benefits of picture-in-picture mode include boosting viewership for Instagram creators and encouraging longer usage of Meta’s app.

However, a downside could be that it might cause users to become distracted, as more individuals watch Instagram Reels while multitasking with other applications.

Currently, there’s no specific timeline or plan for when Instagram might roll out its picture-in-picture mode, if they choose to go ahead with it.
