World Junior Champion Pranav Venkatesh achieved a stunning win against Grandmaster Alan Pichot from Spain.

Pranav stayed unbeaten throughout the nine round tournament, racking up five wins and four draws in total.

He clinching the title at the Fujairah Global Superstars chess tournament here.

Pranav racked up seven points out of a possible nine, finishing a full point ahead of his closest competitors – Brandon Jacobson from the United States, Jose Eduardo Martinez Alcantara from Mexico, and Amin Tabatabai from Iran, who all ended up tying for second place with six points each.

GM Aditya Mittal and the highly ranked GM Nihal Sareen both ended up sharing the fifth position with 5.5 points each in the tournament that wrapped up here on Monday.

Aditya ended up in sixth place overall, while Nihal, who kicked off with a loss in the first round against Pranav, had to settle for 12th place.

The Indian took home the winner’s prize of USD 23,000 for his outstanding performance and gained an impressive 28 points to his current ELO rating.

He’s heading to Samarkand in Uzbekistan to take part in the Grand Swiss, which is the toughest Swiss tournament ever, featuring some of the top players in the game.

At just 18, Pranav displayed the wisdom of a Grandmaster rated 2843.

The lineup includes World Champion D Gukesh, R Praggnanandhaa, Arjun Erigaisi, Vidit Gujrathi, P Harikrishna, and many other skilled Indian players, along with strong competitors like local star Nodirbek Abdusattorov, Anish Giri, and Russia’s Ian Nepomniachtchi, among others.
