On Friday, Google started allowing users to transform their online searches into conversations, using generative AI to deliver spoken summaries of the search results.

According to Google, Gemini AI models provide quick summaries of query results in a conversational style using Audio Overviews.

“An audio overview is a great way to familiarize yourself with the topic, providing a handy, hands-free method to take in information, whether you’re juggling tasks or just enjoy listening”, Google mentioned in a blog post.

“We show useful web pages directly in the audio player on the search results page, making it super easy for you to jump in and find out more”.

Google is enhancing online search with generative AI, leaning into AI even with concerns about its ad-driven business model.

CEO Sundar Pichai just introduced a new AI feature in Google search.

The new AI mode of the search engine takes things a step further than AI Overviews, which show answers to questions using the tech giant’s generative AI capabilities, sitting above the usual blue links to websites and ads.

Since Google launched AI Overviews in search just over a year ago, it has expanded to over 1.5 billion users in various countries, as stated by Pichai.

Google’s move into generative AI is happening as competition heats up with OpenAI’s ChatGPT, which has also added search engine capabilities to its well-liked chatbot.
