WhatsApp is beginning to introduce a new feature that summarizes unread messages in chats. According to a blog post from whatsapp, this update is currently available in English in the U.S. and will later be expanded to include various languages and countries.

By default, this feature will be turned off, so users need to enable it through Advanced Chat Privacy and choose which chats can be shared for AI features.

After it’s turned on, users can click the icon next to the unread messages notification, which will then provide a summary in bullet points.

Message Summaries uses Private Processing technology, which means Meta AI can create a response without Meta or WhatsApp ever accessing your messages or the private summaries. Plus, no one else in the chat will know that you summarized unread messages.

Meta has been gradually adding AI features to its messaging platform. Back in March, they launched a new AI-powered widget for quick access to the AI chatbot. Then in April, they introduced real-time AI image generation on WhatsApp.
