Australia decisively achieved a 159-run victory against the West Indies in the first Test on Friday (June 27, 2025),with Nathan Lyon cleaning up the tail after Josh Hazlewood’s impressive five-wicket performance shattered the hosts’ defense on a pitch that turned into a bowler’s dream.

Lyon took the last two wickets in back-to-back balls, wrapping up Shamar Joseph’s exciting innings at 44 off only 22 deliveries, as the West Indies were bowled out for 141 while chasing a tough target of 301, giving Australia a 1-0 lead in the series.

“There was plenty happening in the wicket, bouncing up and down from a length”, said Hazlewood, who ended with stats of five for 43.

“It’s all about consistently targeting that spot and staying patient. I’m really enjoying cricket, especially Tests right now. The team vibe is great”, He added.

When we noticed the West Indies taking the second new ball today, we figured something might happen, but not that quickly. There are a few cracks on a length from one end, some deliveries went low, and we managed to get a couple bowled and lbws.

Pat Cummins took down Shai Hope with a delivery that stayed dangerously low, and substitute fielder Marnus Labuschagne made a direct hit to run out Alzarri Joseph, showcasing Australia’s dominance in every aspect of the game.

Earlier, Australia built their winning position step by step with smart batting over three sessions.

Beau Webster (63) and Travis Head (61) created the first century partnership of the match, but Head ended up face-down after a delivery from Shamar Joseph slipped under his bat.

Alex Carey’s impressive 65, which included an amazing six that hit the stadium roof, pretty much wrapped up the match, even though Joseph managed to take five wickets with his relentless seam bowling.

The day’s thrilling ups and downs really showed how unpredictable Test cricket can be going from a strong start in the morning to a total collapse in the afternoon with Australia proving once again why they are the top team in this format.
