This month, YouTube is set to launch an update that targets mass produced or repetitive content, which doesn’t meet the authenticity standards of its YouTube Partner Program.

Although AI wasn’t directly referenced, numerous YouTube creators and content producers guessed that the update would target low quality Generative AI videos that are made with minimal effort. These videos are frequently uploaded to YouTube in bulk to earn quick cash, instead of taking the time to thoughtfully develop a creative brand and audience over the long haul.

The rise of affordable Generative AI video creators has resulted in an increase in synthetic videos, making it tougher for human creators to profit from videos that demand more time, effort, and resources to create.

To make money through the YouTube Partner Program (YPP), YouTube has consistently asked creators to share content that is both “original” and “authentic”.

“On July 15, 2025, YouTube will be revising its guidelines to more effectively spot mass produced and repetitive content. This change aims to more accurately represent what “inauthentic” content means in today’s context”,stated the Google-owned video platform in a recent announcement about the YouTube Partner Program.

YouTube Liaison and YouTuber Rene Ritchie elaborated on the update and its potential impact on creators or channel owners, but he made it clear that this update isn’t a significant change for the majority.

“This is just a small tweak to YouTube’s long-standing YPP policies aimed at improving the identification of mass produced or repetitive content. For years, this kind of content has been ineligible for monetization and is often seen as spam by viewers. That’s all there is to it”, he mentioned.
