Amanda Anisimova came back from losing a set to beat four-time Grand Slam winner Naomi Osaka 6-7(4) 7-6(3) 6-3 on Thursday, earning her a spot in the U.S. Open final.

There, she’ll face defending champion Aryna Sabalenka in her quest for her first major title.

“Oh my gosh. It means everything to me. I’m just trying to wrap my head around it. It’s truly a dream realized. I’ve wanted this for so long, to be in the U.S. Open final, and now I hope to take home the title”, 24 year old expressed after making it to her first final at Flushing Meadows.

Two time New York champ Osaka was in her first major semifinal since 2021, soaking up the big moment under the bright lights of Arthur Ashe Stadium.

The two players exchanged breaks twice in a closely contested opening set.

After a pause in play due to a delayed line call from the automated system, Osaka regained her focus and let out a huge cheer when Anisimova sent a shot into the net on set point during the tiebreak.

However, the 23rd seed found it tough to maintain that momentum in the following set, as Anisimova kept pace with Osaka’s intensity.

After the players exchanged intense blows for 12 games in the next set, Anisimova seized the moment in the tiebreak to push the match into a deciding set.

The eighth seed, who faced a 6-0 6-0 defeat against Iga Swiatek in the Wimbledon final just two months prior, jumped ahead 4-1 with a stunning forehand winner.

She maintained her composure to secure the win, making it to consecutive Grand Slam finals.

“She really pushed me hard for the final. I wasn’t sure I could cross the finish line. I had to dig deep. It was a massive battle out there. I focused on staying positive. I felt a lot of nerves at the start, and that’s something I’m working on. This tournament means so much to me, and I think that pressure was really affecting me”, Anisimova shared.

She added,”Ultimately, it’s all about fighting your way through. I’m trying to savor the moment. We were both playing incredible tennis, and at times it felt like ‘how are we even making these shots?’ but we did, and we just kept pushing on”.
