The Indian men’s hockey team clinched the Asia Cup 2025 title after defeating the Republic of Korea 4-1 in the final held at the Rajgir Sports Complex in Bihar on Sunday.

With this victory, India ended an eight year drought to reclaim their title and secured a spot in the FIH Hockey World Cup 2026 in the Netherlands and Belgium.

Earlier, India crushed China 7-0 to secure a spot in the final of the continental hockey tournament, while Korea made an exciting comeback to beat Malaysia 4-3 in their Super 4 matches on Saturday.

The Indian men’s hockey team wrapped up the Super 4s stage with a draw and two victories, one against Malaysia and the other against China.

On the other hand, Korea had not won any matches in the Super 4s before their game against Malaysia on Saturday, finishing this stage with one win, one loss (to China), and one draw.

India stands as the only unbeaten team in the league and heads into the final as the top team after the Super 4s.

Korea, however, has not performed at their best during this tournament, having surprisingly lost to Malaysia in their Pool match.

Nevertheless, they managed to celebrate as their Super 4 victory over Malaysia allowed them to qualify for the final as the second-placed team.

Match Summary

Goals for India were scored by Dilpreet Singh (28′, 45′), Sukhjeet Singh (1′), and Amit Rohidas (50′), while Son Dain (51’) netted the only goal for South Korea.

India started strong, with Sukhjeet Singh finding the net for the hosts just 30 seconds into the match.

Captain Harmanpreet Singh provided a great assist, which Sukhjeet skillfully picked up and sent a powerful tomahawk shot past South Korean goalie Jaehan Kim.

The first quarter was packed with action, including a penalty stroke awarded to India with about six minutes remaining before the first hooter.

This chance arose when Mandeep Singh was taking a shot on goal, and a deliberate stick check by a South Korean defender led to the penalty.

Unfortunately, the opportunity was missed as Jugraj Singh’s flick was saved by Jaehan.

In the second quarter, South Korea managed to slow down India.

Jugraj received a green card, but young midfielder Rajinder Singh helped India secure their first penalty corner in the 19th minute.

Unfortunately, a solid review by South Korea meant India lost that opportunity.

After a short pause in the second quarter where neither team could mount a significant attack, Dilpreet Singh finally broke the deadlock with a goal in the 28th minute.

Harmanpreet Singh sent a long ball that Sanjay skillfully received and lofted to Dilpreet.

He took a moment to set himself up perfectly to find the gap between the goalie’s legs, giving India a 2-0 lead.

After the half time break, India kicked off the third quarter with just 10 players on the field since Sanjay had just been shown a green card right before the second hooter.

Only three minutes into the third quarter, India earned a penalty corner due to a South Korean foot in the circle.

However, the on field umpire overturned the decision after Mandeep’s shin hit the ball first before it touched the South Korean foot.

In the following minutes, India’s forwards created several chances, making attempts to penetrate the South Korean circle, but it wasn’t until the 45th minute that Dilpreet scored another fantastic goal.

Once again, it was Harmanpreet Singh who played the role of playmaker with a smart pass into the center of the goal, allowing Raj Kumar Pal to take a shot before Dilpreet turned it in.

In the final quarter, Dilpreet continued to be the focal point of India’s attack, creating a penalty corner that Amit Rohidas converted.

At the start of the fourth quarter, South Korea managed to score after a clever variation in a penalty corner.

However, this goal did little to alter the match’s outcome. But India comfortably secured the win.

This marks India’s fourth win in the Asia Cup hockey tournament, with their last victory occurring in 2017 in Dhaka.
