The Season 2 finale of Wednesday ended with more questions than answers, clearly setting the stage for Season 3.
Season 2
Part 1 ends up with Wednesday battling for her life after Tyler (Hunter Doohan) tosses her out of a window amidst the chaos at Willow Hill Asylum, which was triggered by her releasing the patients, including Tyler’s mom, Francoise, a Hyde.
By the end of Part 2, the Addams family
faces some big changes, as their dark past
connections start to surface.
The series wraps up with Wednesday rescuing Tyler while she attempts to save her brother, Pugsley, from Isaac Night and
Francoise, who were using him to
get rid of the Hyde within Tyler.
The ending left viewers questioning whether Wednesday still has feelings for Tyler or if it’s something completely different.
In a chat with Variety, creators
Alfred Gough and Miles Miller shared insights into some of the major story choices.
Why did Wednesday decide to let Tyler go?
During the interview, the host inquired about the reasoning behind Wednesday’s choice to let Tyler go when she had the opportunity to kill him.
Gough clarified that the choice was more about strategy than feelings.
“She needs Tyler to serve as a distraction while she goes to rescue Pugsley and I believe there’s a moment when she feels sympathy for Tyler, realizing he’s being betrayed by his family, just as she feels betrayed by her family for keeping these secrets from her”, he explained.
Gough also mentioned that the two have a strange kind of connection that wednesday would never acknowledge, but it’s something he perceives.
In the end, wednesday decides that I let him go so he could be the distraction we needed to save Pugsley.
The show runners were then asked
about a possible romance storyline. If he still has feelings for her, or if he might turn against her after becoming part of the secret.
“There’s a strong bond and a real appreciation for the fact that they both go beyond what a typical person would do” Millar mentioned.
He also pointed out that both Wednesday and Tyler are feeling puzzled and taken aback by their emotions for one another. “They’re a bit uncertain about the rhythm of their relationship, and that definitely suggests what might happen in Season 3”.
The creators shared how Tyler’s
character is depicted as someone who
battles self hatred yet cherished the freedom his abilities provide.
At the same time, Season 2 also revealed Thing’s origin story.
Enid’s alpha status is clarified, granting her permanent werewolf powers, which she hadn’t completely understood before.
Netflix has also approved the third season of Wednesday, although the release
timeline is still being discussed.
“Our objective for Season 3 is the same as it is for every season: to make it the best
season of Wednesday we can possibly achieve”, Gough said.
Millar said,”We’re looking to keep exploring our characters while broadening the world of Nevermore and Wednesday. We’ll get to meet more Addams family members and uncover more family secrets in Season 3″.
