Yuki Bhambri from India reached the semifinals in the men’s doubles at the U.S. Open alongside his partner Michael Venus, which is his best performance in a Grand Slam event.

Bhambri lost in a nail biting match with a score of 7-6 (2) 6-7 (5) 4-6 against the seasoned sixth seeded British duo of Neal Skupski and Joe Salisbury, but he still managed to make his own mark in history.

The duo from India and New Zealand put together a remarkable campaign at Flushing Meadows, defeating higher seeded teams on their way to the semifinals.

Their journey featured wins against the fourth-seeded German pair of Tim Putz and Kevin Krawietz, as well as taking out the 11th seeds Rajeev Ram and Nikola Mektic.

Highlighting Bhambri’s rising profile in the doubles scene after injuries hindered his singles career.

The 33 year old player from Delhi has made history as just the sixth Indian man in the Open era to reach the semifinals of a Grand Slam doubles event, joining the ranks of Anand Amritraj, Vijay Amritraj, Leander Paes, Mahesh Bhupathi, and Rohan Bopanna.

Sania Mirza stands out as the only other Indian player to shine in doubles, having achieved the world number one ranking and clinching tennis Majors.

“This week has been really special for me. Competing at this level and reaching the semifinals of a Slam is a huge moment”, Bhambri expressed after the match.

Bhambri’s performance adds to a strong season for Indian tennis, following closely behind Bopanna’s steady success on the doubles circuit.

He has faced several injury breaks over the last ten years, reaching the semifinals marks a significant achievement and could be a pivotal moment in the second half of his career.

Bhambri has secured a major lift in his rankings and gained some important momentum as he moves forward in the season.
