NASA astronauts have spent thousands of days in space, testing the boundaries of human endurance and exploration. These astronauts frequently participate in extended missions aboard the International Space Station (ISS), playing a vital role in essential research related to human health, spacecraft systems, and the potential for living in deep space.

The Axiom-4 mission which launched into space on Wednesday with four crew members, including Peggy Whitson, a former NASA astronaut who has the record for the most cumulative days spent in space.

Also on board are ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation) astronaut and pilot Shubhanshu Shukla, along with mission specialists ESA (European Space Agency) project astronaut Slawosz Uznanski-Wisniewski from Poland and HUNOR (Hungarian to Orbit) astronaut Tibor Kapu from Hungary. Notably, Shukla will be the first Indian to ever visit the ISS.

The record for cumulative days spent in space keeps track of the total time astronauts have logged during various missions.

Peggy A. Whitson has logged 675 days in space, Sunita L. Williams has spent 608 days up there, Don Pettit has racked up 590 days in space, Jeff Williams has been in space for 534 days, Mark Vande Hei has spent 523 days in space, Scott Kelly has completed 520 days in space, Mike Barratt has a total of 447 days in space.
