A historic 48 teams are set to compete in the 2026 World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada.

Tunisia secured their spot in the World Cup for the third consecutive time on Monday (September 8, 2025) by defeating Equatorial Guinea 1-0 with a last minute goal.

They are currently at the top of Africa Group H in the qualifiers, holding a 10-point lead over Nigeria, and they haven’t allowed any goals against them.

A total of forty three teams will earn their spots via continental qualifying tournaments.

Additionally, two more will clinch their places in the intercontinental playoffs, which will include six teams and are set for March 2026.

Asia will have eight direct spots and one for the intercontinental playoff.

Africa has nine direct spots along with one for the intercontinental playoff.

North and Central America, along with the Caribbean, will receive three direct berths (plus the three host nations) and an additional two spots in the intercontinental playoffs.

South America has six guaranteed spots and will also send an additional team to the intercontinental playoffs.

For the first time, Oceania has secured a guaranteed spot – New Zealand achieved that in March.

They might get another spot if New Caledonia makes it to the intercontinental playoffs.

Qualified Team

Africa: Morocco (qualified on Sept. 5), Tunisia (qualified on Sept. 8).

Asia: Japan (qualified on March 20), Iran (qualified on March 25), Jordan (qualified on June 5) , South Korea (qualified on June 5), Uzbekistan (qualified on June 5) Australia (qualified on June 10).

The three host nations automatically qualify.

Oceania: New Zealand (qualified on March 24).

South America: Argentina (qualified on March 25), Brazil (qualified on June 10), Ecuador (qualified on June 10), Uruguay (qualified on Sept. 4) , Colombia (qualified on Sept. 4) , Paraguay (qualified on Sept. 4).

Europe is set to have 16 teams definitely participating in the World Cup.
