On Tuesday, September 23, 2025, the International Cricket Council (ICC) announced that USA Cricket’s membership has been suspended right away.

The choice is made as cricket gears up to make its comeback in the Olympic lineup for the Los Angeles Games in 2028, with the ICC giving the green light for USA’s national teams to join in its events and get ready for the big show.

In a media statement, the international governing body held USA Cricket accountable for ongoing and repeated violations of its responsibilities as an ICC member.

They mentioned that this decision came after a detailed review of the situation and a lot of discussions with important stakeholders over the last year.

“The ICC Board made a decision in their recent meeting, citing USA Cricket’s ongoing and repeated violations of its responsibilities as an ICC Member according to the ICC’s Constitution”, the ICC stated.

“These violations include, but are not limited to, not establishing a proper governance structure, insufficient progress towards obtaining National Governing Body status with the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC), and major actions that have harmed the reputation of cricket both in the United States and globally”, it added.

The international governing body emphasized that this action was essential to safeguard the “long-term interests of the game” and reassured that its main focus is to ensure that the athletes and the sport remain unaffected by the suspension.

The ICC Board has announced that the national teams of the USA will keep their right to take part in ICC events, including the preparations for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games (LA28).

For the time being, the management and administration of the USA national teams will be supervised by the ICC and/or its appointed representatives to ensure that players receive ongoing support and to keep the momentum going towards Olympic inclusion.

This strategy shows the ICC’s strong dedication to protecting the best interests of cricketers in the USA and maintaining a High performance and Player development program aimed at enhancing the status and skills of players representing the USA.

The governing body mentioned that its Normalisation Committee, which has the backing of the ICC’s management, will “detail the necessary steps to lift the suspension on USA Cricket and restore its membership rights”.

“These steps will involve clear and specific changes to USA Cricket’s governance structure, operations, and overall position within the Cricket ecosystem. The Normalisation Committee will also keep an eye on USA Cricket’s progress and offer advisory support”, it added.
