The Dubai International Cricket Stadium witnessed significant drama on Friday (September 26, 2025).

In a thrilling match under the lights, India and Sri Lanka ended up in a tie, leading to a Super Over to decide the winner.

Match Summary

India was the first to bat. While India was batting, Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma, and Sanju Samson were the standout players.

Abhishek blasted a quick 31 ball 61 runs, while Tilak (49 not out off 34 balls) and Samson (39 off 23 balls).

Abhishek notched up his third consecutive half century in just 22 balls.

After Abhishek was out, the stage was set perfectly for Tilak and Samson to build a score that would boost their confidence ahead of the final. They seized the moment with a solid 66 run partnership.

During the Sri Lankan chase, the standout moment was Nissanka’s 127-run partnership with Kusal Perera.

Pacers Arshdeep and Harshit, who replaced Jasprit Bumrah and Shivam Dube, were taken on aggressively at the start.

Nissanka’s brilliant shots helped Sri Lanka reach 72 for one after six overs.

Perera also got in on the action once India brought in spin. In the sixth over, he hit Axar Patel for two boundaries towards square-leg, and then slog swept Kuldeep Yadav for another four towards midwicket.

He also hit a similar shot in Varun Chakravarthy’s first over for another boundary.

In that same over, Nissanka celebrated reaching fifty off just 25 balls.

In the ninth over, his shorter deliveries were sent flying towards midwicket, with Perera smashing his half century in just 25 balls.

Kuldeep, who is often the go to guy in a crisis, couldn’t snag a wicket until his last over.

After Varun stumped Perera in the 13th over, India aimed to tighten their grip by quickly getting rid of Charith Asalanka and Kamindu Mendis.

Nissanka, who hit a straight six off Arshdeep to reach his century, had the chance to finish the job.

Pathum Nissanka’s amazing century looked like it would help the Lankans secure a consolation victory in the Super Four stage while chasing 203.

India’s bowlers kept their cool in the final moments to get back into the game.

With 12 runs needed in the last over, Nissanka hit the first ball from Harshit Rana to Varun Chakaravarthy at short fine leg.

When Dasun Shanaka sent the second to last delivery for a boundary, the pressure shifted back to Rana.

On the last ball, with Sri Lanka needing three runs to win, Shanaka hit Rana towards long on and rushed back for two runs, forcing a tie breaker.

In the Super Over, Arshdeep Singh only gave away two runs and took both wickets. India’s captain Suryakumar Yadav needed just one ball to chase down the three run target, keeping the defending champions’ unbeaten streak alive.
