The Asia Cup trophy wasn’t given to the champions, India, after they declined to accept it from ACC chief Mohsin Naqvi.

On Sunday (September 28, 2025), the Indian team, who were the Asia Cup champions, refused to take the winners’ trophy from ACC chairman Mohsin Naqvi, who also serves as Pakistan’s Interior Minister and heads the country’s cricket board.

As Mr. Naqvi stood ready for the presentation ceremony, the Indian players remained about 15 yards away, unwilling to move from their spots, causing significant delays in the formalities.

It was reported that the Indian team management inquired about who was meant to present the trophy, leading the ACC to huddle together, realizing that their chairman was not a suitable figure for the champions.

When Mr. Naqvi finally took the stage for the presentation, Indian fans in the audience began to boo loudly, chanting “Bharat Maata Ki Jai”.

Indian Team Celebrates Asia Cup Victory Without The Trophy

As Mr. Naqvi approached the podium, he was informed that the Indian team would not accept the trophy if he attempted to present it, and they would file an official protest.

Mr. Naqvi waited, someone from the organizers unexpectedly took the trophy back to the dressing room.

The Indian team had already made it clear to the ACC that they would not accept the trophy from the ACC chairman, having not shaken hands with Pakistani players during the three Asia Cup matches and skipping the usual pre-toss photoshoot.

In a surprising turn of events, the Pakistani players did not come out of the dressing room even an hour after the match ended, leaving their chairman alone and embarrassed, wanting to follow the protocol of the continental body.
